"...Freire's "Vento em Madeira," with its infectuous beat and big band ambiance, sent Marsalis and the orchestra to their respective jazz and Brazilian roots." (The Birmingham News - "Marsalis, orchestra bring tour to finale)"

STEPHENS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Birmingham - Alabama - 09 de novembro de 2008

"...The event at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts was billed as Marsalis Brasilianos. Even though Marsalis' contributions were noteworthy, the 29-piece Brazilian orchestra was the evening's real star... The full orchestra, including two percussionists, returned for the final piece of the program, "Vento em Madeira" ("Wind and Wood"), by contemporary Brazilian composer Léa Freire."

JORGENSEN AUDITORIUM
Storrs - Connecticut - 28 de outubro de 2008

"...Listeners looking for a quick, visa-free jaunt to Rio had to cool their heels until the end of Saturday's Orchestra Hall program by the Orquestra Philarmonia Brasileira and consummate guest saxophonist Branford Marsalis. But their patience was rewarded with a closing work (Léa Freire's piquant "Wind in Wood") and three seductive encores by Brazilian pop icons that evoked, to varying degrees, the irresistible tropical cocktail of sun, sea, sand and sweat."

WINONA MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM
Winona, Minnesota - 26 de outubro de 2008

"...With Marsalis as the featured soloist, the ensemble will perform several of Villa-Lobos's "Bachianas Brasileiras" (sort of choros in the style of Bach), plus material by French composer Darius Milhaud (also influenced by Brazilian folk music), Léa Freire (who juggles Brazilian genres with jazz and classical), and popular Brazilian artists Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento."

"...Then a strange thing happened. After a botched curtain call, in which everything ground momentarily to a halt, Marsalis came back out with two more pieces. And that, really, was the moment the concert started. Without filling the audience in on what he was playing, he and the orchestra performed two lively Brazilian pop numbers, one by Milton Nascimento and the other by Léa Freire, both of which were head and shoulders above anything else the musicians had done."

HULT CENTER
Eugene - Oregon - 02 de outubro de 2008

"...The program was changed from the stage, adding the composition “Vento em Madeira” by Léa Freire. One could hear Brazilian dance accents and a touch of Aaron Copland, too, with some improvised measures by Marsalis on soprano."
